Rural Roots is an innovative by- youth- for youth project
that empowers youth to question social injustice and to
act on their awareness of issues currently affecting our
world.
This project builds
capacity and networks amongst Alberta youth to actively
participate in local and global change.
Stay tuned for more 2008/09 Rural Roots events.
Rural Roots builds
partnerships between rural and urban youth;recognizes the
unique skills that rural youth have in addressing global
issues, and promotes the participation of all youth in the
creation of just and sustainable communities.
The 2007 focus is youth taking action on
the Millenium
Development Goals (adopted by 191 countries including
Canada in 2000).
Rural Roots is a unique way to not only
reach out to Alberta youth but to engage them in reaching
out to their communities. This program allows for linkages
to form, experiences to be shared and horizons to be broadened
while giving youth the opportunity to direct their own initiatives
and conceptualize their own visions for social change. The
program builds leadership skills and provides concrete tools
for organizing events, holding meetings, running education
campaigns and engaging in one’s community.
At CFCA we believe that Rural Roots will
help to empower, impassion and connect Alberta’s future
leaders.
