ALBERTA'S RURAL YOUTH - Worth Our Investment

Change for Children Association’s Rural Roots: Communities in Action is a program that recognizes youth as Alberta’s most important resource. In today’s world a youth’s potential is dependent on the right opportunities. The purpose of Rural Roots is to provide these opportunities.

our roots

Who?
Rural Roots is an innovative by-youth-for-youth project, created by Change for Children, that empowers young people to question social injustice in the world, and to actively participate in affecting local and global change.

What?
Since 2003, Rural Roots has empowered thousands of Albertan young people by engaging them in global justice education tours, leadership training, mural painting, documentary projects, and hands-on, high energy youth conferences. We strive to empower, impassion, and connect our young people and future leaders.

Where?
From Calgary to Cold Lake to Peace River to Athabasca, Rural Roots has worked in all corners of Alberta, connecting youth and building the capacity for positive social change. We build partnerships between rural and urban youth, recognizing the unique skills that rural youth have in addressing global issues, and promoting the participation of all youth in the creation of just and sustainable communities.

When?
Our program organizes exciting, hands-on global education and activism workshops throughout the year, giving youth the tools they need to get actively engaged in making a difference in their communities. Check out our upcoming 2008-09 Rural Roots events, and learn how you can get involved!

Why?
Rural Roots is a unique way to not only reach out to Alberta youth but to engage them in reaching out to their communities. This program allows for linkages to form, experiences to be shared, and horizons to be broadened while giving youth the opportunity to direct their own initiatives and conceptualize their own visions for social change. The program empowers leadership skills and provides concrete tools for organizing events, promoting education and awareness, public speaking, working with the media, and affecting social change within the local and global community.

At CFCA we believe that Rural Roots will help to empower, impassion and connect Alberta’s future leaders.

Putting Your Community On the Map
Change for Children is challenging all Alberta communities to become a Community in Action. Community in Action means that your school, business, community organization, workplace or municipal government will commit to hosting or partnering on an education event or fundraiser or both supported by Change for Children.
